Basic Team Play Poker Tips
1 – If the only players left in a hand are on your team, the player with lowest chip count (player A) should be allowed to win the hand, so player A's team mates should fold their hands regardless of how good they are.
2 – If the only players left in the hand are on your team, and 1 player (player A) has considerably fewer chips then it's in the team interests for player's B and C to lose some chips to player A, as the object of the game is to keep your team/team mates in the game.
For example Player A has 1000 chips, Player B has 2000 chips – player A would raise 500, player B would call, player A would raise minimum and player B would fold – leaving both players with 1500 chips. Or Player A has 300 chips, player B has 2000 chips and minimum bet is 50 – Player A would raise $250, Player B would call, Player A would go all-in and player B would fold. Never force your team mate to go all-in as you may not be able to fold and you may eliminate your own team mate and therefore score fewer team points.
3 – equally, if your opposition has 1 player with very few chips they will try to force you out of the hand so that they can lose some chips to their player and keep them in the game. Sometimes it's good tactics to block the opposition by calling their bets regardless of your own cards. This can be a little tricky as blocking with nothing can result in a loss of chips to the opposition which you may otherwise have kept.
Example, player A has 300, Player B has 1500 and player X (other team) has 1200. Player B raises 250 to try and knockout player X. If it goes to plan player X folds and player A can then raise to 300 and player B folds. Player A ends up with 550 chips and B ends up with 950 chips, but player A is now in a much safer position. Or Player B raises 250, player X calls, then player A has to either call or fold. Unless player A has a very good hand he/she really doesn't have much choice but to fold. In this scenario, if player A calls and loses player A ends up with only 50 chips, player B gains 250 if he/she wins hand and player X loses 250 chips, but by losing those chips player X has placed player A in a very precarious position
4 – A PLAYER NEVER CALLS A TEAM MATES ALL-IN – NEVER
5 – respect your team mates big blind
